Today's challenge

"The Lord of Hosts says this: Make fair decisions. Show faithful love and compassion to one another.  Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor, and do not plot evil in your hearts against one another. (Zechariah 7:9, 10 HCSB)

Impossible! Watch out for yourself! That's the only way to survive! But, is that really survival? I don't think so. I would rather be ripped off for loving someone than be hard and "survive."

The Christian is called to give, to die to self, to be like Christ—after all, that's what "Christian" means in Greek. I fail to see how one can embrace the current societal system and claim to be Christian. Society certainly doesn't endorse any of the values expounded in the above passage; society says watch out for number one. The Christian has a different number one, though...

It's a subtle thing; a subtle change of focus. Shift focus from God's kingdom to America. After all God is really the one who gave us our rights in America, through our "christian" founding fathers. (Well if you were a white, land owning man, then you had rights. If you were of African heritage, or just as bad, Native American then the white guys were "free" to own, oppress, and murder as they liked). But we conveniently forget the founding father's past sins. Jerry Falwell said a mouthful when he said, "The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country." A mouthful which too many American Christians have fallen for. A mouthful which absolutely contradicts what Jesus said, not once, not twice, but THREE times: John 15:19; 17:14; and 17:16. Then Jesus tells Pilate, his kingdom is not of this world, John 18:36. The truth is Satan has convinced Christians that Christ is king of America. Instead of Christ's eternal kingdom we are willing to force Christ to become king, but what we do is commit the sin of the religious leadership of Jesus' own day: John 11:48b "...and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.” What is so sad is that rejecting Christ didn't save the Jews who condemned Jesus. Within 35 or 40 years of Christ's resurrection the Romans came and took away both their temple and their place. American Christians, in a very short time will surely lose their place and rights in America.
